First IST Lecture by Martin Nowak
Harvard-Biomathematician explains evolutionary advantages of cooperation
130 visitors came to the IST Campus to Klosterneuburg Wednesday evening to attend the first IST Lecture: Martin Nowak, Professor of Biology and of Mathematics at Harvard University and Director of Harvard’s Program for Evolutionary Dynamics, was the first scientist to give such a lecture. After words of welcome by President Thomas A. Henzinger Nowak introduced the audience to Darwin's achievements as such and to his personal field of interest: „Evolution of cooperation: From selfish genes to supercooperators“. Nowak's convincing lecture was followed by a vibrant Q&A session. Pictures of the evening can be found in the gallery, an APA report in German is available for download. The IST lectures aim to introduce eminent researchers presenting their work to a scientific audience and to the general public. The lectures will take place on a regular base.
