Information for incoming scientists
For scientists who are joining research groups at IST Austria, this page provides you with instructions regarding the onboarding process as well as important information about joining IST Austria.
After you have been selected by the head of a research group (professor or assistant professor), you will be sent the link to our application tool – here you can fill out all necessary details and upload all required documents.
Required documents
Required documents are the following:
- Your passport
- A portrait photo (in .jpg format)
- Your CV
- Your university diplomas
- Confirmation of enrollment in a PhD program (for Predoctoral Visiting Scientists only)
- Confirmation of enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program (for Scientific Interns only)
- Any documents you have related to external funding (grants/fellowships)
- Copy of Austrian work permit (if applicable and already available)
Note to postdocs: A postdoc contract cannot be issued until you provide a copy of your PhD diploma.
Academic Affairs coordinates the onboarding process. After you submit all necessary information and documents a member of Academic Affairs will contact you.
Please note that the onboarding process cannot begin until you have submitted. We kindly request that you submit at least 2 months prior to your planned start date.
Additional Important Information
Housing: On campus housing may be available in our guesthouse or apartments.
Visas for non-EU citizens: During the onboarding process our International Officer advises scientists who are not EU citizens about visas/residence permits.
Relocation: Scientists relocating to Austria may be eligible for a grant offered by the Austrian Research Promotion Agency, the “FFG career grant”. You can find more information about eligibility and other details here. Please be aware that you must apply for this relocation grant prior to entering Austria so please begin the process early if you intend to apply.
